We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Transcriptionist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for listening to voice recordings that physicians and other healthcare professionals make and convert them into written reports. They may also review and edit medical documents created using speech recognition technology. Transcriptionists interpret medical terminology and abbreviations in preparing patients’ medical histories, discharge summaries, and other documents. The ideal candidate should have excellent listening skills, strong knowledge of medical terminology, and exceptional typing skills.

  • Transcribe medical reports, summaries, office visit notes and other medical documents from recorded messages from health care providers.
  • Provide online copies of transcribed document to physicians or other providers.
  • Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency, and proper medical terminology.
  • Distinguish between homonyms and recognize inconsistencies and mistakes in medical terms, referring to dictionaries, drug references, and other sources on anatomy, physiology, and medicine.
  • Follow up with the healthcare provider to ensure that reports are accurate.
  • Meet set deadlines for work assignments and projects.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical standards related to medical transcription.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality according to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Work closely with healthcare providers to identify any inconsistencies or errors in the transcribed document.
  • Keep abreast of new medical procedures and terminology to ensure the accuracy of the transcription.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in medical transcription (CMT).
  • Experience in medical transcription is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and the various medical specialties as required in areas of responsibility.
  • Excellent skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, and style.
  • Ability to use designated professional reference materials.
  • Ability to operate designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
  • Ability to concentrate.
  • Excellent listening skills.
